Dictionary of Marketing Terms: Educational Broadcasting Corporation (EBC)
Educational Broadcasting Corporation (EBC)
not-for-profit organization originally chartered by the New York Board of Regents and licensed by the Federal Communications Commission to operate WNET in the public interest. In addition, EBC produces programs distributed by the Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) to noncommercial television stations. EBC depends on viewers; corporations; foundations; endowment proceeds; and federal, state, and local governments, as well as its own revenues to achieve its mission of "producing and presenting quality television that advocates, enlightens, and entertains." The National Educational Television organization was absorbed by the EBC in 1972.
