Dictionary of Marketing Terms: corrective advertisement
corrective advertisement
advertisement whose purpose is to correct an advertised claim that has been found by the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) to be deceptive. The corrective advertisement is used to counteract the earlier advertisement's effects. The FTC will require corrective advertising after sponsoring research whose findings indicate that lasting false beliefs have been created that can only be dispelled through this means. A corrective ad may be required even though the advertising in question has been discontinued. Each situation is decided on its own merits.
