Dictionary of Marketing Terms: continuity acceptance department
continuity acceptance department
department at a broadcast station or network whose responsibility is to be certain that there is continuity between programming and the standards set for programming. It is the continuity acceptance department that will preview commercials to determine whether or not they are up to the broadcast standards of that station or network. Each station or network sets its own standards, although there is general agreement as to what is objectionable. Anything that makes an unsupported or false claim, is in bad taste, or expresses immoral language or concepts is considered unacceptable. If a commercial is rejected by the continuity acceptance department, the advertiser then has the option of changing the material and resubmitting it.
