Dictionary of Marketing Terms: commercial register
commercial register
degree of halftone color-print image alignment in which the error allowance is +/- one row of dots, four-color process printing requires overlaying multiple images of one color each that, combined, produce a multicolor image. To get the correct coloration, each image must be overlaid in register (in precise alignment) with the rest. Each halftone color image consists of tiny dots of ink. To be commercially acceptable, the alignment of the color separations should be off by no more than one row of dots.
