consumer magazine intended for a special-interest audience, (eg., Photography Today is a magazine intended for those whose interest is photography); also called special-interest magazine. Sometimes the expression is misused to mean a slick magazine directed at a high-income audience; this is totally in error. The word class in this case refers to a specific group (or class) of readers who share a common interest.
Manufacturers of specialized products will reach a more interested audience when they advertise in a class magazine. The manufacturer of a unique new camera lens, for example, will fare much better if the lens is advertised in Photography Today than in a more general publication. The information about the lens will be read by the select audience most likely to purchase the product. Class magazine advertising offers the advertiser a minimum of waste circulation.
