carbon copy
a copy of an outgoing electronic mail message kept by the sender or forwarded to someone other than the recipient. (See cc; Bcc; FCC.) In pre-computer days, carbon copies were made in typewriters by placing a sheet of carbon-coated paper and an extra piece of plain paper behind the main document.
