group of checks, drafts, or items handled as a unit for back office processing later during the day. Also called block. Contrast with on-line processing.

- mode of data processing that accumulates transactions for periodic file updating. See also bank; on-line.
- group of documents or transactions that require similar handling, are from the same time period, and/or are grouped for efficient processing-for example, all cash orders received in one day for the same product.
