federal law that prohibits discrimination against individuals with physical handicaps, including hiring practices and design of buildings intended to serve the public.

Example: To comply with ADAa restaurant owner had to build wheelchair ramps by the door. In each bathroom, required changes included widening one stall, elevating the toilet seat, and bolting a handrail to the wall.
