voluntary, not-for-profit membership association of over 80,000 composers, songwriters, lyricists, and music publishers founded in 1914. Headquartered in New York City, ASCAP's primary function is to protect the rights of its members by licensing and charging royalties for the public performances of their copyrighted works.
