Here's Why You Should Go Car Shopping for Christmas

Would you ever go car shopping on Christmas? Most people would rather spend time sipping on eggnog and opening presents at home. But you may be missing out on one of the best days of the year to buy a car. That’s because the best time to buy is when everyone else is far away from car dealerships.

It’s not just Christmas that’s a great day to buy—all around the holidays the best auto deals can be found.

Why is Christmas a great time to buy a car?

One of the main reasons is that at the end of the calendar year, many car dealerships are closing their books and trying to get rid of the prior year’s inventory.

Another reason is that car manufacturers and dealerships provide sales incentives to their employees to encourage sales. Most people know that car salesman have monthly targets, and that the end of the month is a prime time to buy. But there are also annual targets for automobile sales. Because the week between Christmas and New Year’s is both the end of the month and the end of the year, salesman have an extra incentive to hit their numbers.

Often, the bonus a salesman might earn is large enough that they are willing to provide a deep discount on a single sale.

Finally, during the holiday season dealerships are deserted and salesmen are desperate to find customers. It’s cold outside, and most people are wrapped up with holiday activities and don’t have time to go car shopping. Who wants to walk around a car lot and test drive cars when it’s 30 degrees out? Plus, many families budget spare cash for Christmas presents, not a down payment.

If you’re in the market for a car, consider shopping over the holidays when car lots are uncrowded and discounts are plentiful.
