Book Recomdentations on Selling Your Business
I was asked the other day for a good book on selling your business. Like many aspects of selling businesses, the recommendation really depends on the size of the business.
Medium Sized Business (Generally a few million to $20 million in sales)
Of course I'm a bit biased, but a good book on positioning and selling a middle market business is "How to Sell Your Middle Market Business" by Ney Grant (me). It is based on many years of selling businesses and also three years of writing blog articles on the day-to-day experiences of deal making. Another good book on how to position a business into a salable business is "Built to Sell" by John Warrillow.
Main Street Small Businesses (Generally under a few million in sales)
Main street (“mom and pop”) businesses are primarily served by business brokers, and the process of selling one these small businesses is very different from a larger business. A good book on selling small businesses is Successfully Selling Your Business by Andrew Rogerson.
