5 Tips for Driving More Traffic to Your Landing Pages

Building a good landing page is only half the battle. After planning, designing, and optimizing the page, the last thing you want is for your efforts to be futile. That’s when the focus turns to driving traffic to the page. There are a number of unique strategies for doing this, but a few stand above the rest.

    Prepping Your Landing Page

Before you can worry about driving traffic, all of your focus needs to center around the landing page itself. It should be clean, concise, and to the point. The more distractions you can eliminate, the better off you’ll be. After all, the last thing you want is to get traffic, only to miss out on conversions because your landing page isn’t ready.

When thinking about your landing page goal, try to make it as easy as possible for visitors to convert. For example, if your landing page goal is to directly sell a product or service, you should incorporate some sort of on-page selling tool. Spaces offers a pretty good resource for incorporating shopping carts and payment directly onto landing pages. This prevents users from getting distracted or overwhelmed after clicking through to another page.

On the other hand, if your goal is to capture email addresses, don’t make it difficult for users to give you that information. Instead of creating a lead capture form with five or six different fields, simply ask for a name and an email; you can get more information later. Formstack offers tools to help users increase lead capture efficacy.

    Tips for Driving Traffic

Once you’ve prepared your landing page and ensured everything is as clean, concise, and to the point as possible, you can then focus on driving traffic and acquiring leads. Using the following tips, you can work on building traffic from different angles.

    • CTAs. While you’ll hear a lot of talk about perfecting on-page calls-to-action (CTAs), you should also consider the CTAs that are driving traffic. By creating crisp CTAs and strategically placing them on your home page, at the end of blogs, embedded in relevant articles, and on the side of highly-trafficked pages, you can increase the chances of users seeing and clicking.
    • Make it exclusive. People love feeling like they have access to something special. Using social media, you can target your followers by telling them you have a special offer for them on the landing page that can only be accessed by following a set of instructions. It may sound counterintuitive–asking users to follow through with multiple steps–but people typically relate more steps to better, more exclusive results. An example would be telling social followers that you’ll give them access to a new ebook if they go to your landing page, enter their emails, and answer a survey question.
    • Set up a ‘‘thank you’’ page. If you want to attract high returning traffic, your best opportunity lies with existing customers. Setting up a ‘‘thank you’’ page for customers to land on after they purchase a product on your site, reengages them. This works especially well if the page is trying to sell them a complimentary product or service.
    • Invest in shareable content. In today's social age, the quickest and most effective way to drive large traffic numbers is by investing in shareable content. If you can create a piece of viral content that resonates with the masses (and includes a link or CTA to your landing page), you’ll see some pretty incredible traffic spikes.
    • Use your email signature. Your email signature is an incredibly valuable piece of digital real estate. There are dozens of different ways you can use it as a marketing tool–including driving traffic to landing pages. Try incorporating a simple hyperlink below your name and you’ll be surprised at how many people click on it to find out more.

By using these tips and tricks, you should be able to attract more traffic and convert a much higher percentage. As always, remember to track important landing page metrics, and always be thinking about ways you can improve.
