5 Signs Your Business Has Lost Its Momentum (And How You Can Fix It)

When your employees seem to have given up on your mission or you're no longer striving to generate growth, your business is heading for a dead end. But it's not too late to turn things around.

That's why we asked five entrepreneurs from FounderSociety the following question:

    Q. What’s one sign that my business has lost its momentum? How can I get the ball rolling again to ensure growth?

    1. You're No Longer Excited to Get Up in the Morning

kam-dibaRemember when you used to wake up, excited to tackle the day ahead? If you can't remember, that's a tell-tale sign that you've lost momentum in your business. Growth comes from a willingness to accept change. New projects, clients, ideas, and opportunities are calling on you every single day. If you keep an open mind, you might find that the next opportunity could be staring right at you. —Kam Diba, Reverge

    2. Employees Start Leaving

lisa-curtisThe biggest sign that a business has lost momentum is when employees start quitting. It's easy for this type of downward momentum to spiral, so make sure to address employee morale with a team meeting and a fun outing before it's too late. —Lisa Curtis, Kuli Kuli

    3. There's a Distinct Lack of Growth

steven-buchwaldNo matter what you do in life, always look for new ways to grow—new avenues by which you can improve yourself. The moment you stop doing that, you’re stagnating. And the moment you start to stagnate, your business does too. To gain back that momentum, examine your life. Start looking for little ways you can improve, like eating better and exercising more, and work from there. —Steven Buchwald, The E2 Visa Lawyer

    4. Employees Have Lots of Free Time

ajmal-saleemYou can generally tell if a business has lost its momentum by looking at its employees. If they have plenty of time to walk around and chat, or extra time to access social media, the business has lost a lot of the momentum. You can get the ball rolling again by suggesting innovative ideas for improving your company; you can even promote people as an incentive. —Ajmal Saleem, Suprex Learning

    5. The Phone Isn't Ringing

ben-walkerIf your phones aren't ringing, I would be very worried. When people aren't calling us and we're not calling people back, I notice a drop in energy in the office. Activity begets activity, and clients or prospects can tell when your energy levels are bright and cheery. Get on the phone, call leads back, call current clients or your mentor and ask what you can do better. Pick up the phone and get going. —Ben Walker, Transcription Outsourcing, LLC
