4 Female-Focused Coworking Spaces Women Entrepreneurs Should Join

Interested in joining a coworking space, but uncomfortable at the thought of being in a male-dominated environment? You may want to consider becoming a member of a women-only coworking space.

From coast to coast, the successful rise of these coworking spaces can be summed up in one word: community. Creating brick-and-mortar spaces that welcome women from all walks of life allows them to build a community with other fellow female professionals. They can network with like-minded individuals, offer support, and even dress however they feel without the added pressure that comes with being in a environment full of men.

Ready to find your tribe? Here's what you need to know about four of the biggest female-focused coworking spaces.

    1. Hera Hub

Location, location, location: Hera Hub has locations in Southern California, Washington, D.C., and Phoenix; it also has an international location in Sweden (which offers angel investment assistance) and is working on creating spaces in Atlanta, Seattle, Houston, and Irvine, Calif.

Membership perks: Spa-inspired coworking, anyone? Hera Hub makes every day a spa day by crafting each space to appeal to the five senses. Spaces have plants, art, calming colors, and the scent of relaxing aromatic candles in the air. Soft music plays in the background; they serve fresh coffee, spa water, and snacks; and seating arrangements are designed for your comfort level.

What’s makes this space stand out? Since launching in 2011, Hera Hub has been passionate about supporting female entrepreneurs who want to launch or grow their businesses. By providing a working space that is professional and also allows the five senses to flourish, women are able to connect and collaborate together productively.

    2. RISE Collaborative Workspace

Location, location, location: RISE is located in St. Louis, Mo.—a 10-minute drive from St. Louis Lambert International Airport.

Membership perks: Members of the 6,000-square-foot work space have the option to work out of 11 private offices, a large classroom, or one of the three conference rooms. Flexible work stations can be found throughout the space, including two lactation rooms for new mothers. There’s complimentary coffee and tea, and free parking, too.

What’s makes this space stand out? In addition to helping women professionals grow and thrive, RISE keeps an eye out for opportunities for giving back to the community. One way it gives back is by providing memberships to high school girls. These memberships give young women a motivating work space to do their homework, along with access to coaching services and the opportunity to be matched up with a mentor.

    3. The Riveter

Location, location, location: Three locations in Seattle (Capitol Hill, Bellevue, and Fremont) and two in Los Angeles (West L.A. and Marina Del Rey).

Membership perks: Beyond coworking incentives like floating desk use, The Riveter encourages self-care by offering complimentary yoga, meditation, and barre classes for its members.

What’s makes this space stand out? Membership plans are offered on a monthly, part-time, and second shift basis so women can pick the option that best fits their schedule. The space also hosts events for its members that can touch on topics ranging from tapping into journaling to taking a startup from an idea to revenue in a six-month time span.

    4. The Wing

Location, location, location: Three locations in New York City (SoHo, Flatiron District, and Brooklyn); a location in Washington, D.C., slated to open spring 2018.

Membership perks: More than a work space, The Wing prides itself on providing an extensive list of amenities for its members. Some of these include access to its sprawling library, food and drinks, a lactation room, showers and spacious bathrooms, hair blowouts, a room to nap in, and much more. There are also plenty of events for members to attend, including wake-up breakfasts for creatives, a book club, and trivia nights.

What’s makes this space stand out? Described as a home base for women, The Wing is part coworking space, part social club, and 100% of the belief that magic is created when women gather together. If you'd like to become a member, it’s better to apply now rather than later—several thousand women are already on waiting lists to join.
