suspend
to stop the CPU and input-output devices of a computer while leaving the contents of memory in place, so that it can resume where it left off without rebooting. Unlike a hibernating computer, a suspended computer continues to consume a small amount of battery power. Contrast hibernate.

suspend
customer-file record status used to temporarily stop service to the customer while continuing other activity, such as billing. Customers who purchase a subscription on credit but fail to pay in response to the first few invoices are usually suspended until payment is received. A suspend status differs from a stop and hold status, in which all activity is discontinued.
