Dictionary of Marketing Terms: proportionate allocation
proportionate allocation
merge/purge process of deleting duplicate names from the lists in a merge/purge in proportion so that no one list is penalized more than the others for duplicates. For example, if List A represents 20% of the names input, then 20% of the duplicates between List A and List B will be deleted from List A. This is important to list owners, who are paid by the list renters according to the number of names remaining on their list after the merge/purge. In some cases, the allocation is instead done according to preassigned list priority
