Dictionary of Marketing Terms: postmark advertising
postmark advertising
advertising that is printed by a postage meter machine on an envelope as part of the postmark. Postmark advertising is used by business organizations, public utilities, service associations, retailers, hotels, and other institutions on their mailing envelopes and usually takes the form of a brief message, slogan, or design logo. Type and the printing plate for postmark advertising are composed by the manufacturer of the postage-meter machine. Postmark advertising must meet certain U.S. Postal Service requirements. Advertising must be nonpolitical and noncontroversial, and the messages are not to contain any data or design that might be construed as regular postal markings.
