Dictionary of Computer and Internet Terms: mousetrap
mousetrap
a web page that is programmed, using JavaScript or another scripting language, so that the "back" button on the browser no longer works as intended. That is, once you go to such a web page, you cannot back out of it. In 2001 the U.S. Federal Trade Commission took action against an advertiser who used mousetraps on thousands of web sites to compel viewers to view a barrage of obnoxious advertisements.
