Dictionary of Real Estate Terms: military clause
military clause
an option included in residential leases that allows a tenant currently serving in the military or reserve to break the lease without forfeiture of security deposit in the event of a transfer or call-up to duty.
Example: Zeke is in the Army and is often transferred from one base to another. He is willing to sign a 1-year lease only if he can get a military clause that gives him an out should his unit decide to move him with little advance notice.
