Dictionary of Business Terms: ISDN
ISDN
integrated services digital network, a telecommunications technology offered by telephone companies that provides transmission speeds up to 128Kbps. Because the network is all-digital, in contrast to the analog telephone system, it can easily send voice, data, and video over the same line simultaneously. Although ISDN uses existing phone lines, it does require specialized equipment: a network terminator and an ISDN adapter, sometimes referred to as a digital modem.
