- bring into an economy goods produced outside that economy; also, the goods so introduced.
- bring into one computer application a file created by another application. Most word processing, spreadsheet, and graphics applications have import filters for files created in competing programs.

Many word processing and graphics programs have the ability to import text and graphics from several different file formats. Because importing is a type of file conversion, formatting and image detail may be lost in the process.
