Dictionary of Marketing Terms: hot pocket
hot pocket
special point-of-purchase display offered by a wholesaler or distributor to retailers in selected locations for a limited promotion period in exchange for a fee. For example, a magazine normally distributed only on the east coast might purchase hot pocket displays on the west coast for an issue featuring a cover article about the film industry. Highly desirable retailers who can be selective about the titles they carry may accept a hot pocket promotion if they believe it will sell well. In addition to increased sales of that particular issue, it may be the push needed to convince the retailers to carry that title on an ongoing basis.
