founded in 1882, CHX is a regional exchange complementing in and adding diversity to the National Market System. CHX merged with the stock exchanges in St. Louis, Minneapolis-St. Paul, and Cleveland in 1949 to form the Midwest Stock Exchange. Ten years later, the exchange in New Orleans also joined the Midwest Stock Exchange. The Midwest Stock Exchange changed its name to the Chicago Stock Exchange in 1993. In 2005, CHX members voted to demutualize, resulting in a new corporation named CHX Holdings, Inc. that owns and operates the Chicago Stock Exchange. The majority of trades executed on the Exchange are automated and its customer base includes a wide spectrum of participants bringing together on-line, full-service, professional and institutional customers. CHX trades stocks and exchange-traded funds that are listed on the New York Stock Exchange, American Stock Exchange, NASDAQ Stock Market, and exclusively on CHX. www.chx.com.
