Dictionary of Marketing Terms: CD-ROM catalog
CD-ROM catalog
presentation of a set of items available for purchase, including description, price, and ordering information, on a CD-ROM disk. CD-ROM catalogs are particularly popular with business-to-business marketers whose product line includes vast quantities of items. CD-ROM catalog items can be accessed much faster than on-line catalog items and with higher quality graphics and animation. Hybrid CD-ROM catalogs offer Internet links that provide current product availability and pricing or that update the CD-ROM file. Password systems enable marketers to customize CD-ROM catalogs for each customer. Unlike the Internet, which relies on customers finding the catalog, CD-ROMs can be sent to prospective customers via direct mail.
