AM station
any radio station in the amplitude modulation (AM) system. The Federal Communications Commission has assigned to this system the range of wavelengths from 0.535 to 1.605 MHz (megahertz), or 53 to 160 on the radio dial. Any station within this spectrum is called an AM station. Currently, there are approximately 4750 AM commercial stations in the United States, with a 1% annual growth rate to the system.
