In this blog post, I talked about using a timer to track certain projects, tasks, or jobs that we do during the course of our home-based business day. If you track your time, what do you do with that information? So you spent 2 hours on task X, now what?
There are at least two ways you could use that information. You could view it as just information to make you aware of how long you’re spending on certain things. Facing up to those realities is very valuable in itself.
You could also view it as a way to better manage your time. For example, you might say “I spent 2 hours on X and it should not have taken that long – how can I clip time off that?”. This is also a valuable exercise. Maybe you can’t do it any faster or better. Then maybe you need to look at whether it’s worth doing (as opposed to not doing it or having someone else do it).
What about you? Do you track time and if so, how do you use that information?
