I’m going to age myself here (what’s new??), but does anyone remember when radio stations conducted “make it or break it” contests for new songs? I remember when the Beatles were just starting out and our radio station conducted a contest on one of their songs. Us kids (teens) would madly dial the radio station number over and over to vote on the song.
Well that concept lives on in many forms, and the internet has opened up some good possibilities for new entrepreneurs who wouldn’t have a chance at getting their product to market without a ton of money. One such website, YakAboutIt.com allows small business to post their product and get feedback from consumers on it’s viability — typically in the form of a competition around sales.
Here’s the scoop on the website directly from their about us page:
“Where would you go to look for new and useful inventions? Where are the products from innovative inventors featured? Before the birth of YAK ABOUT IT, the answer was nowhere. New, market-ready inventions were all in random locations on the Internet or spread out in mostly smaller, niche retail stores. YAK ABOUT IT’s mission is to get new products noticed. Now inventors and start-up entrepreneurs’ new, innovative or exciting products can be found in one central place – YAK ABOUT IT. You now have one spot that ensures that previously unknown products of yesterday become popular products of the future. Join us at the ground level and YAK ABOUT IT!”
If you’re an inventor, it would be worth your while to check the site out. There are some interesting products listed for curiousity seekers too.
