A few months back Yahoo launched Yahoo 360 which is a social gathering place. It’s meant to connect people with similar thoughts and views. Last week they opened it to everyone and this week they launched My Web 2.0.
Yahoo’s My Web 2.0 allows Yahoo users to save copies of web pages when using Yahoo Search. Once saved, tags can be added to each page (or bookmark). With Yahoo 360, you can now connect with others to share and search though saved pages. Thus, sharing your favorite sites with others that might like them.
So where does this tie into search engine optimization? Well, not only are your saved pages accessible to you and your social network, but they are also available to everyone if you make them public. Thus allowing for a new type of search engine that is being created by users, not by bots. Similar to services like Del.icio.us and Flickr.
It’s unknown if these bookmarking services will have a direct effect on the results you seen in regular search engines, but they are creating a whole new way of searching.
