I was delighted to find October’s issue of Working Mother magazine in my mailbox on Saturday, as it is the issue that looks at the 100 companies they’ve found to be family friendly.I enjoy reading the names of the companies that are promoting mothers in business, and I also enjoy reading about the wonderful ways that these companies are supporting families and parents in the workplace.
I’m not going to go into a lot of depth about the findings, because they are all available in this month’s issue (and if you are a working mother and you have not picked up a copy of this fantastic magazine youy really should!) but I wanted to share a few highlights.
The great news: 100% of the best companies to work for in the magazine offer flextime, and overall 58% of companies in the nation are offering flextime. I was glad to see that over half of all companies are offering people the option of going in earlier or later in order to work a more flexible schedule.
More great news: 100% of the companies on the list offer telecommuting. However, nationally only 33% of companies are offering the benefit of working away from the office.
A few great perks that were discussed in the article include recreation rooms, so that employees have a place to de-stress during the work day, and an hourly shuttle that takes Booz Allen Hamilton employees from headquarters to the subway and back again, easing the strain of a commute. Now, how great would it be to work for a company that provided transportation in the morning, so that all you had to do was get to the train on time?
If you want to read about these fantastic perks and more, or if you want to find out what companies ranked in the best 100 list this year, check out October’s issue of Working Mother.
