This article originally appeared in Parenting Magazine and I recently saw it my home business alerts.
It’s an interesting case study of a Work at Home mom who had a difficult time balancing her duties as a mother with her home-based business responsibilities. Seems like common problem! In her case, she eventually needed to rely more on a written schedule and a babysitter to free her up for her business. Work at Home moms, give it a read and I’ll bet you can relate.
Life and Work balance is a huge issue with a home-based business. Often, the driving force behind why we work from home is so that we can spend more quality time with our children and not have to leave them with a sitter all day. But at the same time, the home-business is a business and needs our devoted time too.
I think the most significant part of this case study is the observation that …”she’s not meeting her full business potential because of the distractions“. If we are to run a business from home, then it (like our children) needs to be given a serious place on our daily schedule where it will receive our full attention.
How much time to allocate with the kids versus the business will vary according to individual situations. But even a part-time, home business needs full time attention to grow and be successful.
