Chris over at the Alchemy of Soulful Work offers this amusing post called, Who Knew Dr. Evil Was My Boss? He shares a list of 13 boss types from the movies.
Do you know how your employees would describe you? Since I am a firm believer that our strengths and weaknesses are known, I bet you can come up with what they might call you. The question is, do you like it?
Knowing our reputation is critical. I wrote a lot about this in my book, High Impact Middle Management. There’s a guy I once worked with that was a widely regarded as a poor manager and someone that would sell you out to look good (those of you who have read my book might recognize that I am talking about “Harry”). Can you imagine knowing that people feel this way about you? I don’t know how much Harry knew about his reputation, but if he wanted to know he could’ve seen the signs. Anyway, we ALL have admirable qualities and quirks that drive people crazy. Great managers seek to learn how they come across to others and continuously grow.
If you want to download my reputation survey, you can do so here for free. It’s nothing highly scientific, just a few of the questions you want to ask to learn more about how you are regarded. I have used this tool and found it helpful. If you have any question about how to use it, drop me an email.
Here’s to hoping your employees don’t see you as:
“8. Dr. Evil, “Austin Powers”
Has two obsessions: himself and total world domination.”
