I can’t help but look at those findings and say that they add up to these women selling sex over the Internet. They don’t want physical sex, and the Internet is necessary during tough economic times.
The study goes on to give examples of other aspects of life that are less important than the Internet, like TV. My favorite line of the study is “Even in competition with TV…the Web won. Nearly sex [sic] in 10 of the respondents said they would give up watching television for two weeks rather than give up a week of the Web.”
Does say something important about today’s society? I would say that it does. Soon we will all live in little tiny boxes the size of coffins where we can’t move or breathe. But as long as we have Internet access it’s all good. There could be a series of tubes that bring food and water in and take waste out. The Internet could be connected directly to our brains. Oh, wait, that was called The Matrix.
I wonder if advertising will have to change its tune from “Sex sells” to “Internet sells”?
