Ah, finally it´s September, which means that soon — very soon — humidity will be a memory, snakes will be hibernated, fleas and ticks will have pulled their annual disappearing act. Already, I´m finding red leaves sprinkled on the road. Fall cannot be far away. Hooray.
For retailers this — the coming season of pumpkins and frost — means that women will be hitting the stores because, according to Cotton Incorporated’s Lifestyle Monitor, one in four female respondents to a survey indicated plans to shop for fall clothes early this season. Forget waiting for end-of-the-season sales, they said.
And what, pray tell, will they be buying? Denim! Whether they need it or not. More than one in three female respondents told the Lifestyle Monitor that they may buy one or two or even several denim garments in the coming months.
“That´s a considerable statement given that denim ownership is at an all-time high,” according to the Cotton Incorporated folks. “Female respondents told the Lifestyle Monitor that they own 9.1 pairs of jeans, 3.4 pairs of denim shorts, 1.4 denim jackets and 1.6 denim skirts on average.”
Wow, Lifestyle Monitor did not interview me for this survey, but I certainly fit the profile. I decided earlier today that I would shop for new jeans this weekend. And, I see from the above numbers that I´m a little behind on the count of things denim in my closet. In order to catch up, I need .6 denim skirts, 3.4 pairs of shorts, 1.4 denim jackets and, well, I may be over the 9.1 pairs of jeans, but, hey, who´s counting?
Yippee, it´s nearly fall. I need jeans. I´m off to shift my Volvo into M for Mall.
