We can be fairly certain that over the long run, gasoline prices will continue to climb. AllBusiness.com’s Rebecca Mazin asks, “Will employees call in sick when they can’t afford gas to get to work?” Good question. Start thinking about what you can do when that time does come. It may or may not be soon, but as your business grows and you add employees — and gas hits, what, $8.00 a gallon…? What then?
Rebecca offers some good suggestions:
- Encourage carpooling
- Team up with a nearby employer and create a message board to identify carpoolers.
- Assign the best parking places to people who carpool.
- Once a month put the names of all employees who arrived at work on time into a hat and select one to receive a gas gift card.
