I don’t know about you, but my office has a ton of different electronics all responsible for different tasks. And to make sure no surprises happen when working on computers, we have UPS backups. They’ve been lifesavers since we are in an area that takes frequent electric spikes and regular losses of electricity.
But I was reminded the other day that none of the equipment should be considered “set it and forget it.” For a couple of days, my UPS had been nagging me. Beeping on and off on a regular basis all day long. Needs a new battery, I thought. But I didn’t check it out. And that could have been a big mistake.
When we finally did check the UPS, we found a very corroded battery. It’s a wonder we didn’t have a fire! I’m thankful someone was watching out for us.
The next person may not be so lucky. Check your equipment regularly for problems. And if it starts nagging you, listen.
