If you’re running a home-based business, you probably already know this: There are more potential distractions around the house then there ever were at that 9 to 5 ‘regular job’. Things like laundry, pre-school children, pets, home phone ringing, and neighbors dropping by can really break apart a workday at home.
Obviously we have to give priority to those things which are most important in our lives, but we also have to focus on the business if we are to make the home-based business successful. This usually means quality, continuous time spent in the home office working on the home business. This also means eliminating the distractions.
In this post, I talked about the importance of having an actual physically separate home-office space. I like to make my home office look like an actual office. For example, it has my degree, certifications, and trade association certificates hanging on the wall. It doesn’t look like a spare room in a home and that helps me partition my attention in favor of the business. I have also found ways of getting rid of as many distractions as possible.
What about you? Post a comment and let me know what distracts you and how you deal with them.
