Small Business Q&A
Ok here is the problem. I sell products on my site that are filled by a drop shipper. They shipped an order to the wrong person. I tracked the package and called the person who received it and said we’d have FedEx pick it up. But she wants to keep it (and not pay for it). I did not know what to say to this lady, I was so upset. I tried to tell her that it is not hers and this is theft and she just kept saying no that it should be hers and because of the mistake she should get compensated. What can I do?
I’m not sure of the laws / rules about this, it may be an ethical issue on the part of the person who received the package. If it clearly was not addressed to her, then she should not have opened it. However…
You may just have to eat this. Doesn’t sound like she will cooperate and do you really want to spend the time and hassle anyway? You decide.
What you must do right now..
Get the product off to the right person so you don’t alienate a customer who paid good money to purchase your product. Don’t let the problem cause you to lose a customer.
Then you must determine who will eat the charges on the product that was mis-delivered. If the drop shipper entered the wrong address, then they are clearly responsible and it should be their issue to recover the package. Not yours. You should not be charged and held accountable for an error that another company made.
