BusinessWeek’s published its Top 50 Performing Companies and it isn’t shy about describing them.
They are the agitators, the pioneers, and the game changers that are leading the way in the 21st century.
Here are the Top Ten:
- Coach (Handbags, luggage, etc.)
- Gilead Sciences (Pharmaceuticals)
- Nucor (Steel)
- Questar (Energy)
- Verizon Communications
- Goldman Sachs Group
- Paccar (Heavy duty trucks)
If there’s one common trait among these companies, it’s the degree to which these companies don’t take their success for granted.
Or, to look at it another, better written way: If there’s one common trait among these companies, it’s that they not only embrace change, they seek it out in order to further their business goals.
In reading the descriptions of each of the top ten companies, two other “sub-traits” of success appeared.
- The willingness to listen to customers and employees
- The willingness to seek out new opportunities
Are you resting on your laurels? Are you satisfied with the status quo? If you’re not satisfied with your company’s level of performace then perhaps, as former Coca-Cola CEO Robert Goizueta said, you need to, “differentiate, differentiate, differentiate.” In other words, that’s going to involve change.
Don’t just sit there–do something!
