The 2008 Summer Olympics have been amazing. It didn’t seem
like past Summer Olympic broadcasts had been done as well, and of course there
were no web-based broadcasts to speak of back in 2004. Add in beautiful
countryside and a ridiculous amount of brand-new buildings (must be nice not to
have budgetary issues )
I digress. It was incredible to hear Michael Phelps say this
not once, but at least in two different interviews – probably many more – about what it was that
he used to succeed. Ready?
Yep – oh sure he had a lot of talent too – but a lot of
folks do have talent. Michael Phelps had the drive and desire to win. He said
that he does not like to lose either. That is what makes an athlete push at the
very end…. Lengthen his stroke, and dig deeper to win.
Apparently his coach, Bob Bowman, planted the idea.
So in your business or your sales efforts – what gets YOU to
dig deeper this week? To make one more call?
Visit one more prospective client – or create that one process that will
ease some of your efforts?
Do you have a vision for what your company – or your part of
the company – will be? By focusing on the end result – the gold medals – all
the training, while just as tough and rigorous, seems more palatable when one
can focus on the END – the reward.
Think about yours – is it time to review or hone it?
