Seems that many working women want includes more time with family and more pay. According to a survey conducted by Working America, 34% of women said that after working and taking care of the family they have less than one hour a day to themselves! Eleven percent of respondents said that they have no time.
Yet, unbelievably, 50% of these 12,000 women surveyed would actually get a second job to help pay the bills if they suddenly acquired more time! It shows us the sad state of the homes nowadays thanks to these ever-rising costs when we feel that would have to go out and work MORE than we are in order to get the family ahead.
Forty three percent of these women say that they want more home time.
And we are working MORE outside of the home, rather than less, and we are giving up, imagine this, SLEEP of all things, in order to get it all into our 24 hour days.
I can definitely see this in my own home, where I have had to cut back some on the work front in order to get it all done. With costs the way that they are, this cut back has indeed hit us in the pocketbook.
Sometimes I wonder just how we, as a society, are going to keep it all together with these rising costs, cut backs in jobs and overall “have to work, work more, sleep less” mentality that many mothers I know seem to have right now.
I’m sure, though, that we are not alone. My mother talks about buying her first house for just $15,000. She also talks about making just $100 per month at her job.
Still, with milk at $4 per gallon and gas half a dollar higher (and even more here in Southern California), it is difficult to see just how long I will be able to cut back in my work life in order to keep the home together without really creating a deficit in my bank account.
How are you doing with these rising costs? And what, as a working mother, would you like to have more of if you could? Time? Money? All of the above?
Also, if you did have more time, would you spend it working a second job to pay the bills?
