Year-end evaluations don’t have to be an exercise in anxiety. In fact, they can be a positive experience that drives you to improve your performance and advance your career. To productively participate in your next review process, make sure you understand the criteria by which you’ll be evaluated and review yourself first. If you uncover weak spots in your performance, map out a plan for reaching your unmet goals. Likewise, you should also bring to your boss’s attention all of the things you’ve delivered, if possible, with concrete examples of how your efforts have improved the company’s bottom line. And if you feel that your performance has been really stellar, the review is the ideal time to push for a raise or a promotion.
