Marketing should be a significant part of the budget for any small business, especially those just starting out. After all, customers can’t visit your establishment unless they know you exist. Some low-cost, high-impact ideas include coupons offering two-for-one or 10 percent off your products, in-store events (think grand opening parties appropriately themed for your target audience), and contests that include free merchandise. You can also extend your reach with newsletters that make customers aware of sales and special offers, word-of-mouth, partnerships with other stores that aren’t direct competitors, and free press in the form of press releases. In thinking of ways to market your business on the cheap, let your creativity flow. If one idea isn’t successful, move on to the next one.
