Hello! I’m Nettie Hartsock and I’m a PR-head. What I mean by that is that I spend a lot of my time giving advice to SMB and mid-size businesses about how to really garner that press coverage we’re all aiming to get.
I’ve been on both sides of the PR game and so this blog will be filled with tips, anecdotes, interviews, case studies and tons of insight into how to really get the media traction your company needs.
I’m a longtime Internet journalist and have written for top publications both offline and online and I’m crazy about storytelling and helping companies get their story out.
At the end of the day, really all any of us want to read or hear is a good story and this blog will help ensure one day it will be your company’s story.
Here’s a secret about getting good PR. It just takes one release at a time. The race for PR is really about being ok with being the turtle instead of the hare. If you’re willing to stick to a good PR plan and you’re consistent, and you build relationships with journalists, then ultimately you’ll get some coverage.
You don’t think the guys at Google landed on the cover of Playboy in just one day do you?
So ask yourself the questions below, answer honestly, and even send me some email responses and I’ll share the results in later postings.
Have you ever felt left out by the mainstream press? Are you the guy who stands alone at the tradeshows while your competitors chat it up with the journalists? Have you received any feedback at all from any journalist that you´ve sent a PR pack or media fax to in the last twelve months? Do you have partnerships built with journalists that call upon you for quotes, insight and background knowledge for their feature articles? Do you know some local journalists by name? How many hours does your company PR person spend on getting you good press? Do you have strategic links and partnerships via online and distribute an email newsletter to your clients/customers and select press for expanded "buzz"?
And the final question, do you know how to write a press release?
All these questions and more will be covered in the blog! So come and join the race, but beware of taking the path of the hare!
