Every so often another survey appears that draws the same conclusion — North Americans are working more than we were ten years ago. Longer work days and fewer holidays. If that´s not bad enough, the surveys also conclude that we are getting less done now than we were back in the glory days of the 90´s. That drives me freaking insane! How is it possible that, with the speed at which everything around us is progressing, we are getting less efficient and less productive? 10 years ago computers were far slower and less powerful, mobile phones were the size of bricks and the only thing that was wireless was a house without electricity. We have better tools now and we have 10 years more wisdom, yet we have taken a step backwards in our race for productivity.
The Personal Productivity Blug, a new AllBusiness.com blog, will, not surprisingly, look at all aspects of personal productivity. We´ll discuss why our productivity is decreasing and what we can do to reverse that trend. We´ll look at techniques and tips to free up your time and get you to the bottom of your To-Do list. We´ll examine the technology that exists to help you do more and determine what you need and what will only get in your way (here´s a hint — I tend to reject much more technology than I embrace).
The Personal Productivity blog won´t just spew out the same tired tips that you have read 100 times but never found a way to make work. I´ll scour the books, magazines and the internet to find the best thoughts, ideas and nuggets out there. I´ll challenge conventional wisdom when it needs to be challenged. I´ll make sure we have some fun. I might even be controversial sometimes. In the end, though, the goal will be to find ways for you, and me, to get more done. Come along for the ride!
