Last week I did a webinar on Social Networking for ReadyTalk – you can listen to it here (click on Web Seminar Series and then click on Recorded Web Seminars). In the webinar, I talked about creating an online profile, connecting to other networkers online, and using sites like LinkedIn and my own women-focused networking site, WorldWIT. I said in the webinar, and I believe strongly, that profile-and-connection sites like LinkedIn and moderated discussion groups like WorldWIT go hand-in-hand; on sites like LinkedIn, you can identify people and connect to them or contact them for further conversation.
On an online community like WorldWIT, you don’t connect one-on-one to other networkers, but you can pick up the virtual megaphone and reach the whole group (or a regional subset of it) to get advice with problems and issues you’re facing, as well as to make business contacts and support other women in business. For me, those two sets of functionality make up the yin and yang of online networking.
How do you network online? What sites and resources do you find most valuable? Leave a comment and tell us.
