Gerhard Gschwandtner is truly an amazing individual. Amongst various other achievements, he’s the founder and publisher of Selling Power, the leading sales management magazine which has won the Magazine of the Year award from the American Society of Business Press Editors twice in a row. He’s also the author of 14 books on sales, sales management and motivation.
Prior to meeting at the Waldorf hotel in Manhattan and actually sitting down to do the interview, we had exchanged some emails regarding topics to discuss.
When the day came the room was set up like a professional studio. It was a pleasure to finally shake Gerhard’s hand; the person who’s magazine I’ve enjoyed and been contributing to for all these years. (Funny, when you meet people face to face. I didn’t realize how tall the guy is. I’m six feet and he was tall to me.)
After filming the first portion of the interview, Gerhard and I were taking a break, during which we were discussing the next book I’m currently working on, “Coaching Salespeople into Sales Champions.”
When we sat down at the interview, and the cameras started rolling again, he thought it would be a good idea to do some on the spot coaching. He just didn’t tell me he was going to do it until the cameras were taping it. Luckily, coaching is all about collaboration and co-creating new opportunities in the present, which is what you see in this interview. No edits, no second takes.
All in all, it was a great time, a wonderful experience and I hope you enjoy watching it as much as I enjoyed creating it.
