It’s been hard to sit on the sidelines of the BP mess without posting something. I just didn’t think there was anything left worth saying about their pathetic _________ (fill in the blank, there are just too many options to choose.)
But this past weekend’s PR blunder is worth one minute.
Imagine being the guy/woman in charge of BP’s communications. Clearly the CEO can’t be coached or gagged. Clearly the company’s actions and practices are crooked beyond any spin doctor’s capability.
Now you are asked to rebut the public’s perception that your CEO has climbed the ranks of the all-time villains in business — because he was enjoying watching his $700,000 yacht race out on the WATER. We have been told that this was his first break since the disaster. Wah. I ruined the world and I’m tired. Maybe it’s time we stop attacking BP’s PR and just attack BP.
BP doesn’t have a PR problem. They have a soul problem. How fitting that their business is all about going DOWN into the murky abyss.
