The Wal-Mart Foundation will award grants totaling $5.7 million to the U.S. Conference of Mayors and to Veterans Green Jobs for the purpose of supporting the creation of green jobs in the United States. Wal-Mart notes that this announcement comes just after a Global Insight study, which revealed that 10 percent of job growth in the United States will be green by 2038.
This spring, six grants will be awarded to nonprofit organizations that have a history of working with mayors to train people for green jobs. Early next year, three more grants will be given to cities with commitments to providing green workforce training.
The Wal-Mart Foundation is awarding $750,000 to Veterans Green Jobs to support development of training sites in Washington, Colorado, New Mexico and Louisiana.
Veterans Green Jobs empowers veterans to work in the green jobs sectors, says the executive director of the organization.
