Telecommunications Industry News cites a study revealing that home-based businesses are more likely to adopt Voice over IP (VOIP) for their phone service. That isn’t too surprising since VOIP is a natural fit with a home office. With VOIP, you are usually able to use your headset on your computer to make calls. If that is where you work most or all of the time, it means integration with your workspace. Or you can also use IP phones (phone sets specifically designed to be used with VOIP).
Voice over IP is generally less expensive than traditional phone service. That’s a big benefit for the home-based business. In addition, VOIP plans often carry low cost services such as voice mail and call following – usually considered add-on ‘premium services’ in standard phone plans.
While VOIP advantages and benefits are typically enjoyed by larger enterprise-sized organizations, VOIP also offers the Home Based Business a low cost alternative to standard phone service. And now that the technology has matured a bit, it’s worth looking into if you’re looking for ways to cut your expenses in your home business.
