The Vermont Clothing Company (www.weweregreenbeforegreenwascool.com) is an excellent example of a full, environmental strategy. The company was already selling items made from organic cotton and recycled materials, plus they had their 15,000 square foot building brought up to date with energy efficient lighting and insulation.
Owner Jim Cummings didn’t feel like the company had reached far enough however, so he searched out other energy friendly options. What he found was the CVPS Cow Power program, where 1 farm, with 1000 cows, can provide enough methane gas to power 300 households. The Vermont Clothing Company now receives their monthly 2000 kilowatts of electricity from local farms. It costs the company approximately $1000 extra, but they feel it is a worthwhile investment.
